10 Tips to Packing for moving the goods

Relocating and moving your cargo makes for a tricky work.  For most of us, it is a dreadful activity considering the fact that it takes a whole lot of patience and persistence while packing the stuff in a way that it causes no damage to the belongings.

The process is divided broadly into four tasks i.e. cushioning, packing, boxing and transporting. Starting from cushioning till moving, packing ideas for travel go a long way in organizing everything step by step.

One needs to proceed with caution at every step while packing delicate items for a smooth transport. Especially, if you have decided to move your stuff all by yourself, attention should be paid.

So to begin with, one must know that packing to move is not that much of a task if we follow some basic moving packing tips and tricks while getting ready with cargo packing. Keeping in mind the myriad challenges that will come in the process of packing a move, we have rounded up a list of 10 practical tips that will make things easy for you:-

  1. Make a list of all the things you would need for packing

First thing first, the basic step is getting ready with the things you would need in order to pack your cargo. A night before packing your cargo, it is essential to make a list of the needful cargo packing material.

This list must include boxes of various sizes, bubble packaging wraps, adhesive tapes, etc. After making the list, get ready to collect all the material. A list can be very helpful because it helps in avoiding any last minute chaos.

  1. Collect the add-ons you might need

After collecting the essential cargo packing materials, collect additional items that you might need while packing. These are the things that we often forget like scissors, newspapers, double sided tapes and sketch pens. They might sound petty but they carry utmost importance while moving and packing.

  1. Begin with delineating the goods

Divide your goods into groups. Grouping is necessary first for the safety of the goods and second for your own convenience during unpacking. Delineate goods like Clothes, Kitchenware, Electronics, Accessories, Shoes, Decor and Medicines into groups.

Further, regroup them on the basis of fragility like extremely fragile, moderately fragile and robust. It will save you a lot of trouble later on.

  1. Start the process of packing by Cushioning

After you are done with grouping, start the process of packing by cushioning the goods properly. You can use bubble wraps and/or newspapers to wrap fragile things like cups and plates, paintings, vases, etc.

Cushioning is the basic step for your good’s safety so pay the most attention to the cushioning procedure.

  1. Dividing and Boxing

This step is for further demarcation of different kind of goods. You must divide and re-divide goods on the basis of its category and keep them separately. The basic rule of thumb is to segregate and keep things simple. It will be easy to unpack everything later. And also helps in transportation.

  1. The importance of Sealing

By using a good quality adhesive tape seal the boxes properly. Remember that sealing is the last step in packing and it must also be done with care. If you don’t seal the packed boxes properly, the goods inside it might tumble down from the box during the actual passage.

This is going to increase your work manifold later on. So spend a good time sealing the goods properly and spare yourself the horror.

  1. Double check the bottoms of the boxes

After you are done with the process of packing your cargo, recheck the fragile boxes. Fragile boxes must be wrapped properly with the bubble wrap and a blanket. And then the box of the fragile item must be re-sealed. Reseal it not just on the flaps but also on the bottom.

You must do this because you don’t want to break your prized possessions or want to lose them while in transportation. Many a times boxes open up while in transit and damages occur during transportation.

  1. Mark the boxes

Cargo boxes should necessarily be marked either numerically, alphabetically or by color codes on the basis of the material inside them. Mark highly fragile material red, moderate ones blue and robust ones green, because this is universally understandable code.

So in case the transporter misses the marking or the box, he cannot miss the color marks on the box. Further, the marking is also useful for you while unpacking your cargo.

  1. Keep essential cargo separately

Generally, the movers or the transporters take more time than they promise. So in situations like that, you must be ready with your essentials kit.

This box must contain clothes, bathroom essentials, an extra pair of flip flops and personal care essentials. You would definitely need all these essentials at a new destination.

  1. Do not compromise with Packaging due to the cost

Cargo packing is considered costly when done by professionals. But in a long run, it is more of a practical decision. This is because it is a lot safer than the usual DIYs. Also, the professionals are your ultimate saviors.

The moving tips and tricks from a professional organizer will not only save your time but also keep you away from an unwanted mess. Think practically to make a wise decision. For instance, the cost of a badly packed hence broken HD TV is going to be more than the cost of a professional cargo packer.

So play safe rather than regret later. Go through moving tips and checklists twice, once before packing up and then after everything is packed to ensure you followed everything right.
